Baptism Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is baptism?

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward reality—a public declaration that you have chosen to follow Jesus. It shows a person is washed clean from sin, dying to their old life, and being raised to a new life in Christ (Romans 6:4).

  • Why should I be baptized?

Jesus commanded His followers to be baptized (Matthew 28:19). Baptism is an act of obedience and an opportunity to share your story of faith with our church family and community.

  • Who can be baptized at Fort City?

Anyone who has made a personal decision to follow Jesus can be baptized — kids, students, and adults alike. If your child is interested, we’ll talk with them first to make sure they understand what baptism means.

  • Does baptism save me?

No. Salvation comes through faith in Jesus alone (Ephesians 2:8-9). Baptism is a response to what Jesus has already done in your life, not a way to earn His love or acceptance.

  • How do you baptize people?

At Fort City, we baptize by full immersion in water, just like Jesus modelled. It’s a beautiful picture of dying to sin and being raised to new life.

  • Do you baptize children?

We baptize kids who are ready and able to clearly express their own faith in Jesus. For infants, we offer a Child Dedication service where parents commit to raising their children to know and follow Jesus.

  • What if I was baptized as a baby?

We celebrate your parents’ decision to dedicate you to God as an infant. If you’ve now made your own decision to follow Jesus, we encourage you to be baptized as an adult believer. Not to reject your past, but to affirm your faith as your own.

  • Can I invite friends and family?

Absolutely! Baptism is a celebration, and we’d love for the people in your life to witness it. We also livestream our services so friends and family who can’t attend in person can still be part of the moment.
