Where Fort City Church and YWAM Fort McMurray Come Together

YWAM Fort McMurray, part of YWAM Canada and the global YWAM movement, is located in Northern Alberta. Their work focuses on supporting at-risk, low-income families, youth mentorship, and Indigenous education within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Through relationships and a strong sense of community, YWAM helps individuals, youth, and families find strength—especially where addiction, poverty, loneliness, and limited resources have taken a toll.

YWAM is an international movement of Christians from various denominations and nations, united by a passion to know God and make Him known.

The Partnership

YWAM Fort McMurray leads Fort City Youth, including their Youth Mentorship and Youth Lunch Programs. They also run a weekly Family Night for single-parent and low-income families at Fort City, and their office and classroom space are located in our building.

Together, we host events, pray for our city, and work to reach our community with love and purpose.

Fort City is built on traditional Treaty 8 and Metis territory. Like Indigenous people across Canada, the Indigenous people in this area have been subjected to mistreatment at the local, provincial, and federal levels of Government, which amounts to attempted cultural genocide. Too often, misguided Christians were part of that maltreatment. The Holy Angels residential school in Fort Chipewyan was only closed in 1974, around the same time Fort City was planted. Despite this mistreatment, the Indigenous people in this region have a rich history and culture, which enriches our communities. At Fort City, we have committed to learning the truth and being advocates for reconciliation.
